Jewelers of America “20 Under 40” honoree Fernanda Durmer brings unconventional fine jewelry to Boulder Street

DENVER, CO — Universal Deco, a fine jewelry house founded by Costa Rican–born artist and goldsmith Fernanda Durmer, announces the grand opening of its new Denver boutique on Friday, October 11, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at 1600 Boulder Street in the heart of LoHi.

Universal Deco isn’t your typical jewelry store. The boutique is a curated space that celebrates artistry and craftsmanship, featuring independent jewelry designers from around the United States who are redefining what fine jewelry can be. Each designer has been hand-selected by Durmer for their distinctive voice, exceptional technique, and meaningful storytelling through materials. Every piece is crafted in the USA, offering clients an intimate connection to jewelry that reflects individuality, artistry, and soul.

The boutique’s interior mirrors that creative spirit — a space designed to evoke a sense of natural magic, where modern design meets timeless mystique.

From her beginnings in Costa Rica to her life in Denver, Fernanda has always been drawn to creation as a form of connection. Drawing from her Latina and Indigenous roots, she approaches jewelry as both art and ancestry — crafting modern heirlooms that carry meaning beyond adornment. Through Universal Deco, she invites others into that dialogue — a place where jewelry becomes wearable art, storytelling, and reflection of soul.

“There are so many incredible designers across the U.S., and so many right here in Colorado,” says Durmer. “I wanted to create a place where Denver can see just how cool fine jewelry can look. Traveling and showing my work around the world has introduced me to so many talented, lovely artists — and I can’t wait to share their work with this city.”

Universal Deco represents a fresh perspective in Denver’s jewelry scene, offering limited-edition and custom pieces that blend artistic innovation with timeless elegance — all created by independent American makers who share a devotion to craftsmanship and creative expression.
