Marketing

Traditional advertising remains an important part of messaging and brand building for the jewelry industry, but without innovative digital marketing to boost those efforts, messages could have the same fate as those trees that fall in the forest when no one is around: nobody hears them. Jewelry companies recognize that in our 24/7 omni-channel world, customers and potential customers are always a click/text/post away.

Those in marketing work to create innovative, exciting, relevant, and high-quality content that emphasizes a brand’s message and keeps it top-of-mind among customers. That can mean longer term campaigns or up-to-the-minute ones that hit in real time, like an Instagram post. The digital evolution is in lockstep with customization and the consumer desire to get the right message, for the right product, in the right way, at the right time. Jewelry marketing experts are tasked with achieving this.

Courtney Sivard

Director of Marketing, BC Clark Jewelers

Nikia Levesque

Vice President of Marketing, Day’s Jewelers

How did you get started?

Courtney: I was working for a large Oklahoma corporation in their Real Estate and Development department. My degree was in Marketing, and I had an interest in fashion and merchandising and wanted to use my degree. I loved how fast paced fashion and trends were, but I also didn’t want to leave Oklahoma as my now husband was still finishing school. I found an open position at BC Clark, took a chance, and applied.

Nikia: I started my career with Day’s and the jewelry business at sixteen years old, working part-time in our Service Department. Throughout high school and college, I continued to work part-time and seasonally as a Sales Associate at both our Waterville and Augusta locations. In my junior year of college, I completed an internship with our Merchandising Department. Upon graduating college with a bachelor’s degree in International Business & Logistics, I came on full-time as the Marketing Coordinator.

What’s the best part of your job?
Courtney: I love working in a smaller, family and community-oriented company while still working with the companies I dreamed of working with in New York or LA. I love that I get to see a different side of the fashion/jewelry industry in a way that also makes a difference for my own community.

Nikia: I love working with a team and company that are all working towards a common goal. I’ve been lucky enough to have been surrounded by many mentors throughout my career, and people who have become a family. In my tenure, I’ve honestly never dreaded coming to work – finding your passion and doing it every day is key to living a well-rounded and fulfilled life. I’m grateful to have found my calling at such an early age.

How has your job changed over the years?
Courtney
: The overall landscape of advertising and marketing has really shifted since Covid. We see this both in the places we advertise, the new trends in how to reach people, and in the way our brand partners have responded to the market.

Nikia: There are so many opportunities to expand your knowledge in your area of expertise and beyond. I have been astonished at the amount of educational, networking, and shadowing opportunities available in our industry. I have met so many wonderful individuals throughout the business willing to teach and help you.
