Originally designed to celebrate her 50th anniversary as a jewelry designer, Penny Preville’s 18k gold and diamond bangle wowed the judges of the 2025 Jose Hess Design Award Competition. Embodying the theme “Radiance,” the collector’s item was inspired by the infinite possibilities of the cosmos. Designed as an exclusive limited-edition bangle, it features a wider, weightier 18 karat gold foundation adorned with brilliant white diamonds radiating like the beauty of the night sky.
Intentional details such as five larger, standout stars are scattered across the surface, each representing a decade of Preville’s legacy. Complete with a touch of the designer’s hallmark blue, each bangle is accented on the inside by a signature sapphire alongside Preville’s autograph, as well as a special numerical engraving.
Each bracelet is fabricated in solid 18k gold and precision-cast to exacting tolerances. The piece is set with a total of 154 round brilliant–cut natural diamonds, 144 of which are flush-set directly into the gold structure. The remaining diamonds are individually hand-set using traditional raised-setting techniques.
“After rounds of conceptual sketches, we moved forward with design details that felt essential to the excitement, style, and celebration of such a meaningful milestone,” says Preville. “We wanted the bangle to serve as a reminder to dream, pursue your passions, and radiate love in all that you do.”

Inspired by the infinite possibilities of the cosmos, the bangle’s surface is scattered with diamond “stars,” including five larger points representing each decade of Preville’s 50-year legacy. Each limited-edition bangle carries Preville’s signature touches, including a sapphire accent, her engraved autograph, and individualized numbering on the interior. Fabricated in solid 18k gold, the piece is precision-cast and set with 154 round brilliant diamonds—most flush-set into the surface, with the remainer hand-set using traditional raised techniques.
Reflecting on her half-century experience in fine jewelry design, Preville offered this bit of advice to jewelry designers just starting out: “Fine jewelry lives in life’s most important moments: love, loss, celebrations. Try to put your passion into work in order to develop designs that are personal. Stay true to these feelings to hone a unique signature style. Study and learn everything you can about the history and nature of your materials—recognize the beauty of the metals and stones and how they ‘speak’ to you and embody memorable stories. Always strive for the highest quality of craftsmanship to ensure your work will endure. The jewelry business is one built on social relationships and personal integrity is crucial.
“Familiarize yourself with and understand the business part: manufacturing, pricing, and sourcing materials. Let time and integrity guide your path; recognition will follow.”
