The jewelry industry finally got some good news on February 2, 2026, when President Trump announced, via Truth Social, that a trade deal had been reached with India. Diamond imports from the India had dropped significantly since August 2025, when U.S. importers were hit with a 50 percent tariff on goods (25 percent reciprocal tariff plus 25 percent tariff due to India purchasing Russian oil).
