Behind the Design: G&G Creations
G&G Creations’ favorites
Everyone has a favorite restaurant or uncle. But a favorite piece from your own collection? How do you choose? This month, the designers for G&G Creations in Boston share one of their favorite designs, as well as one of their favorite pieces by another artist.
What’s one of your favorite pieces that you made and why?
Our couture designs reflect our Armenian background, signifying the richness of family and art in our lives. The Grand Entrance captures the feeling that we have as Armenians: You are never without family. You can travel all over the world and when you meet another Armenian, he or she will open their door to you as though you are family.

The Grand Entrance pays homage to this in its 24k yellow gold drapes parted to an oxidized and polished silver entrance. Sapphires, rose-cut champagne diamonds, and pink tourmaline decorate the inside.
As a design trio, we begin each design with a concept. Once the general shape is cast, each of us adds a piece of ourselves into the design, creating something that none of us truly expected at completion. It’s a “family” approach to jewelry making and design.
What’s one of your favorite pieces that someone else made and why?
As artists, we respect many designers in this wonderful industry, but we sincerely appreciate the time and mixture of old world techniques and advanced technology used to create architectural design within gemstones by Sevan Bicakci.

Drawing inspiration from his home of Istanbul, Sevan masters intaglio carving in quartz to create a cityscape. On a base of sterling silver and gold with pavé settings, this piece is truly a miniature work of art. We believe Sevan’s intention with this and his other architectural pieces is to bring the warmth of the city of Istanbul to the wearer.
