At first glance, Martha Seely’s pendant reminds you of a perched peacock. And, after hearing about Seely’s inspiration, you realize how interconnected the natural elements are. The designer shares that she is intrigued and moved by the shapes found in the universe. Her entire Nebula line is inspired by photos of galaxies taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, and this particular pendant in the collection is reminiscent of spiral-shaped galaxies. How interesting then that her design evokes a living, breathing creature. She indirectly reaffirms the connection when she explains that, to her, galaxies represent creation and birth, and she’s continually amazed by this basic spiral shape. All of Seely’s latest designs are modern interpretations of the universe’s beauty—be it a galaxy or a peacock. Whatever part of the universe you see when you look at the pendant, the clean and elegant design does it justice. “The more I explore the natural wonders of our universe, the more discoveries I find there are to make,” she says.
