Jewelers of America is actively seeking the best and brightest rising talents in jewelry retail for our 20 Under 40 list, shining a spotlight on jewelers who exemplify leadership skills and a commitment to elevating jewelry retail for tomorrow’s jewelry consumers. We are currently accepting nominations for the 20 Under 40 Class of 2023!

20 Under 40 nominations are open to any jewelry professional under the age of 40 who is a full-time employee in a JA Retail Member store - it could be an owner, bench jeweler, manager, sales executive, or anyone who serves the store full-time in marketing, merchandising, accounting, or other areas of operations.

From the applications received, 20 honorees from across the country who best embody an ability to lead, innovate, and improve a jewelry’s store success while adhering to professional ethics will be selected for the list. The deadline to nominate an employee (or yourself) is March 24, 2023.

  • Nominee must be under the age of 40 as of January 18, 2023.
  • Nominee must be a full-time employee in a jewelry retail store or fine jewelry department that is an active member of Jewelers of America.
  • Nominee must be employed by a company that is an active member of Jewelers of America.
  • The company may have a brick-and-mortar presence or serve its community via e-commerce.
  • Nominee may be a store owner, bench jeweler, manager, sales executive or serve the jewelry store full-time in marketing, accounting, or other areas of operations.
  • Nominee must have at least three years of experience within the jewelry industry.
  • Nominee must not have been chosen for the 20 Under 40 in 2022.

Judges will review the candidates using the following:

  • Potential to improve a jewelry store’s success
  • Potential to lead in the jewelry industry
  • Potential to improve the community through outreach and/or DEI initiatives
  • Successful in their chosen field
  • Commitment to the Jewelers of America Code of Professional Practices and professional ethics
  • Demonstrates leadership characteristics
  • Innovative mindset that pushes the business/industry forward

20 Under 40 FAQ

Nominations are accepted January 18, 2023 – March 24, 2023.
The recipients receive a certificate, national recognition, features on Jewelers of America’s social media and website, a customizable press release, exposure in National Jeweler, and a free Jewelers of America Certification Course. Most importantly, they win bragging rights!
 Yes. There is no disadvantage to self-nomination
 Recipients will be notified in April 2023. All nominees will be required to formally accept the nomination and confirm the nomination details.
Yes, you can nominate as many people as you like.
Yes. Applications must be submitted for each employee. 
No, a recipient can only be chosen for the 20 Under 40 list once. If a person was previously nominated but not selected as a 20 Under 40 recipient, they can be nominated again.
Nominations can’t be edited. Please look over the entire nomination form prior to submitting it.
No, there are no costs associated with nominating someone.
